2023 Scholarship Recipients
Jack McCarthy
This fall, Jack will be attending Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He is majoring in biology with a pre-medicine co-major. During his time at Avon High School, Jack was heavily involved in the band program, performing lead trumpet in the Avon Marching Black & Gold, Avon Wind Symphony, Avon Symphony Orchestra, and Avon Indoor Winds. Over the last four years, he has earned numerous state, national, and world championships, as well as many personal honors and recognitions.
A member of the top 25 students in his class, Jack was also involved in National Honor Society, the AIM freshman mentorship program, and Interact Club, where he was Captain of International Projects. He is excited to gain many enriching experiences in the years to come at Miami. |
Mackenzie Faust
Mackenzie will be going to Ball State University in the fall to study Music Media Production. During her time at Avon High School, she was very involved in the band program. She was a flute her freshman and sophomore year and then became a drum major and eventually head drum major her senior year. She also played flute in the wind symphony and symphony orchestra. She also participated in the Avon High school jazz band playing trombone. She was also a part of Avon Indoor Winds who won a WGI world championship in 2022 and 2023. Outside of the performing arts, Mackenzie was the president of Eco Club and the Student Television Network. She was an officer for the Avon Action Club, and an officer in National Honors Society. Mackenzie has won the Silent Leadership Award 2 times for Avon Indoor Winds, has been the TV student of the year, as well as been outstanding drum major in both 2021 and 2022.

Julia Harmon
Julia will be attending Butler University this fall to major in biochemistry on the pre-medical school track. Julia plans to continue on to medical school and become a doctor, but is currently undecided on a specialty. Julia has danced for 8 years and will continue on Butler’s Dance Team. At Infinity Dance Academy Julia hasbeen voted as a Senior Company Captain for the past three years in a row. While on Avon’s Dance Team, Julia won 2 state champion titles with her large ensemble. Julia participated in National Honors Society, Interact Club, and the newly formed Henna Club. Julia ranked 15th out of the 817 students in her class with a GPA of 5.068, earning recognition at Avon’s annual Evening of Excellence.

Hannah Taylor
Hannah will be attending Purdue University in the fall to major in Animal Sciences, working towards attending their college of Veterinary Medicine after majoring. During her time at Avon High School, Hannah was a varsity member of the girls' Cross Country and Track and Field teams, being the only four-year letter winner in her class. She was also a member of Avon's Symphony Orchestra and Chamber Orchestra, being the concertmaster of the latter orchestra. She was also in various clubs, including Pre-Med Club, Helping Paws Club, and National Honor Society. Outside of school, Hannah played and competed with piano for 14 years and violin for 7 years. She also volunteered at both Hendricks County Humane Society and Misty Eyes Animal Shelter, actively playing a part in several of their fundraising events. She looks forward to getting involved at West Lafayette!
Piper Bailey
Piper will be attending Butler University to double major in Journalism and Creative Media and Entertainment. During her time in high school, she was in band, vice president for her local Key Club, vice president of Avon High School’s Quiz Bowlclub, and a member of AHS’s National Honors Society. As of today, she has worked at Avon’s local Hallmark store for over eighteen months and has been a part of various volunteer programs for almost ten years. While she’s on Butler’s campus Piper plans to join the Advocates 4 Autism club and other extracurriculars involving neurodivergences. Alongside this, she plans to join the Butler Collegian and gain a platform where she can inform others about neurodivergences in her community.
