Scholarship Criteria
Purpose
Consistent with the mission of the JWL Foundation, Inc. a scholarship will be awarded on an annual basis to a student of Avon High School who exudes the qualities (kindness, leadership, tenacity, determination) and academic achievement attained by Jonathan.
Scholarship(s)
JWL Foundation, Inc. will award up to $15,000 in scholarship money.
Eligibility
Application will be accepted online from February 1st – March 31st
Applicant must submit most current transcript
Applicant must be an Avon High School senior
Applicant must be available for a virtual interview during the 3rd Weekend in April
Applicant must have been an active participant in an extra-curricular activity for their four years of high school
Applicant must be accepted to a 4 year college
Applicant must include at least 2 letters of reference each being 1 page or less
• One from an administrator, coach, teacher and/or staff person at Avon High School
• One from a non-family community member
• Letter of reference should give examples of how the student is a positive influence in community/school (specific details
outlined in application/resume format)
Applicant must include two essays
• Essay prompts will be available February 1st
• 1000 words or less per essay
JUDGING
The board of directors of the JWL Foundation, Inc. will select the scholarship recipient(s). The judging will be based on equal weights of 1) personal achievements listed on the application 2) the essay submission 3) in person interview.
RECIPIENTS
Scholarship checks will be assigned jointly to the school and the student.
All scholarships must be accepted initially in the next autumn semester or quarter after proof of enrollment is received by JWL Foundation, Inc., unless an extension of time is granted for just cause in the judgment of the JWL Foundation, Inc. board.
In the event a selected student is unable to fulfill his enrollment obligations under this program, the award is forfeited and the JWL Foundation, Inc. Board may reassign the award.
